From the halls of Indiana University of Pennsylvania to the studios of Pittsburgh’s top media outlets, Melanie Taylor’s story is one of grit, grace, and unshakable determination. After missing just one college class, a male professor told her she’d never make it in radio or TV. But Melanie didn’t let one moment - or one man's opinion - define her future. She graduated cum laude and went on to build a thriving, 29-year career in Pittsburgh media, without ever leaving the market she loves.
Throughout her career, Melanie Taylor has faced more than her share of obstacles, many rooted in sexism and outdated standards. She’s been told by male bosses that she wasn’t good enough, asked to re-audition for roles she had already earned, and even let go - twice - without cause. She’s heard comments about her age, her appearance, and what she should "fix" to be more marketable.…
