The Brave Space: A Place for Bravery in Action
On August 15, 2025, we proudly celebrated the ribbon cutting of The Brave Space at Steel Plaza.
Surrounded by members, partners, and community supporters, we marked the beginning of a place designed for women to breathe, connect, and take brave action in their personal and professional lives.
The Brave Space: A Place for Bravery in Action is more than a location. It is a commitment to equity, encouragement, and empowerment. The Brave Space was made possible through a Placemaking Grant from the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, funded by Citizens Bank. This grant supports initiatives that bring new energy, accessibility, and creativity into the heart of downtown Pittsburgh.
Today’s working women often face the challenge of balancing demanding careers with family responsibilities, all while navigating societal expectations to excel in both areas. Women are expected to work as if they don't have a family, while also contributing to their families as if they don’t have a career.
The Brave Space seeks to address this imbalance by offering a sanctuary for women to step back,
celebrate their bravery, and reclaim space for self-care and reflection.
The Brave Space is designed to be a welcoming sanctuary in the heart of the city - a place where women can simply be. It’s open and flexible, with no membership or sign-up required.
You’re welcome to wander in anytime to pause, reflect, and recharge.
Use the space however it serves you: bring your laptop and work for a while, enjoy your lunch,
meet up with a friend, or sit quietly with a book. Whether you come for a few minutes
of stillness or a full afternoon of focus, The Brave Space is here for you.
The Brave Space will become a destination for women, attracting visitors from outside Pittsburgh to experience the city’s commitment to empowering women. By celebrating bravery and personal stories,
it will draw women’s groups, travelers, and tourists, enhancing their experience of Pittsburgh while promoting the city’s reputation as a hub for creativity, empowerment, and community.
This installation will not only uplift those already in Pittsburgh but also contribute to
downtown tourism, offering an inspiring reason to visit.
